An unrivalled level of commitment to learner success
Chevron Training uses innovation and problem solving strategies on a daily basis to create numerous opportunities for thousands of learners nationwide, thus cementing its position as the market leader in the competitive training sector.
However, Chevron Training’s social awareness ensures that we are as committed to the social and environmental dimensions of our business in conjunction with our financial performance.
“You make your living from what you get, you make your life from what you give”. This is a philosophy which underpins Chevron Training’s commitment to social responsibility.
Our proactive social initiatives define a successful, responsible and progressive company which contributes to the economic and social life of Ireland and of those sectors in which we deliver training.
Chevron Training has many assets beyond cash that can have a positive impact on the community. Our directors and management offer their time to community organisations and charities throughout Ireland in assisting them in achieving their goals.
However, it is the leveraging of our other corporate assets which we believe can have a deeper impact for the community than the provision of financial donations. The benefits of other assets including expertise, may provide the community with benefits long after a financial asset has been consumed. As an old Chinese proverb states: “Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime”.
Barretstown
Barretstown was founded in 1994 by Hollywood Legend Paul Newman, with the purpose of rebuilding the lives of those affected with childhood cancer.
18,000 children across Europe are diagnosed with cancer every year. The diagnosis of a child with cancer is a traumatic experience which causes significant upheaval and anxiety amongst the entire family unit.
The journey which a child and their family is forced to undertake as a result of this diagnosis can be strenuous and uncertain, however, Barretstown can play an invaluable role in alleviating the adverse psychological affects of the illness through the provision of activities at a specially designed camp.
Providing a unique programme of adventure, activities and fun is the primary focus of the camp. Activities which include arts & crafts, canoeing, archery, equestrian, music and drama are offered to participants in the camp.
These activities are based upon a Therapeutic Recreation programme, whereby an activity sets a challenge for the child, which they then achieve success in and can reflect upon this success, thus allowing the child to discover something new about themselves.
In addition to providing hours of fun for these children, the benefits which are derived from these activities are far more profound and positive as such activities can play an integral role in rebuilding confidence, trust and self-esteem in a child with cancer.
Barretstown offers a child with cancer or other serious illnesses the opportunity to stop thinking of themselves, if only for a short time, as “sick kids”. This in itself is an important factor in helping the child to regain their own inner strength and confidence.
Partnership
Chevron Training and Barretstown can be defined by their similar values in so far as their innovative and specialised expertise facilitate personal development and provides the foundation for their respective participants to reach their full potential.
Consequently, the link between these organisations can be strengthened to ensure that they can work together to ensure that Barretstown can receive the additional financial assistance it requires to continue its provision of vital recreational supports to children with cancer and other illnesses.
As there is an obvious connection between the childcare training courses offered by Chevron Training and the Therapeutic Recreation Programme offered by Barretstown, Chevron Training will allocate a percentage of the fee received from every childcare training course booked to the Barretstown organisation.
Chevron Training is proud to be associated with the services provided by Barretstown and believe that we will be able to continue to support this facility’s objectives on a long term basis.
