On 20th January 2013, Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan, confirmed that work on the installation of water meters will commence in July 2013.  Minister Hogan also stated that the nationwide rollout of water meters would create 2,000 jobs as the installation work would be awarded to hundreds of local contractors.
