New routes for the Health & Social Care Degree in October 2021

New for our October 2021 intake is the integration of different degree routes within Health and Social Care which will be chosen at the end of Stage 1. Each of the routes maintain a strong basis in social sciences and have been developed to address both student and employer needs. The new routes allow you to develop the attributes you need to succeed in these roles. Graduate with a named degree in one of four routes:

BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care

This pathway covers broad topics and theories relating to health and social care. Students will apply theories and concepts to contemporary issues such as mental health, substance use and domestic abuse.

BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care: Practice:

This pathway will have a strong focus on practice knowledge and skills related to health and social care, for example counselling skills. Students will learn how to devise effective and theoretically sound assessment and intervention plans.

BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care: Health and Wellbeing:

This pathway will educate students on public health-related issues such as health promotion, health inequalities, health ethics, and health wellbeing.

BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care: Management and Leadership:

This pathway develops students skills for management related to working effectively with other employees and considerations about wellbeing at work. Students will learn about management and leadership, project management and social entrepreneurship.

Our BSc (Hons) Health & Social Care degree online is offered in collaboration with the University of Sunderland. This degree programme supports students to understand the key issues that affect social care, health and wellbeing and to gain a well-respected degree level qualification. BSc (Hons) Health & Social Care Online

Our BSc (Hons) Health & Social Care degree online is offered in collaboration with the University of Sunderland. This level 8 comparable degree is available to you if you have achieved a pass mark or higher in the QQI level 5 Healthcare course.

health social careThe strengths of the BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care degree programme lie in the way in which academic theory and real life practice are integrated to provide a solid foundation for a career in the world of Health and Social Care.

Chevron recently featured in the QAA review of partnerships between Irish and UK universities, being credited for its student supports and commitment to quality delivery.

One of the aims of the programme is to provide opportunities for students to develop independent study skills, so that by the end of the programme they may become autonomous learners, though students are not expected to achieve this alone. Graduates from the programme will have a variety of career paths open to them, such as Health Service management, social work, teaching, palliative care, nursing, drug and alcohol work, community and youth work, mental health and counselling work, working in caring for the elderly, with children, and with those with special educational needs.

Health and Social Care is a fascinating and wide-ranging area of study. This BSc (Hons) in Health and Social Care will support learners to develop a critical understanding of health and social care research, legislation, theory, policy and practice.

The degree programme will be of interest to students currently working within the sector or for learners who are looking to pursue a career across the broad area of Health and Social Care. In addition, students will study psychology, sociology, social policy, legal studies and research methods.

Many job roles available for Team Leader and Supervisor positions within Health and Social Care require job applicants to have a degree in Health and Social Care, alongside at least two years’ work experience with the Service User group.

This degree programme may also act as a bridge for students hoping to pursue Masters level study in a wide variety of health and social care related areas, such as Occupational Therapy, Applied Behavioural Analysis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Public Health, Health Promotion and Social Work.

  • Explore the contemporary issues that influence health, social care and the wellbeing of individuals and communities, from theoretical and practical perspectives.
