For Stage 1 (year 1) all routes will have the same modules and there will be 2 modules per semester:

Semester 1

October – December:
  • Core module: HSC103 Foundations of Policy, Practice and Inequalities in Health and Wellbeing
  • Core module: HSC104 Biopsychosocial Theory

Semester 2

January – May:
  • Core module: HSC105 Everyone’s Accountable: Safeguarding to Promote, Prevent, Protect
  • Choose 1 module:
    • HSC106 Living with Disability: Culture and Identity
    • SOC134 Social Policy in Action

BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care

This pathway covers broad topics and theories relating to health and social care. Students will apply theories and concepts to contemporary issues such as mental health, substance use and domestic abuse.

BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care: Practice:

This pathway will have a strong focus on practice knowledge and skills related to health and social care, for example counselling skills. Students will learn how to devise effective and theoretically sound assessment and intervention plans.

BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care: Health and Wellbeing:

This pathway will educate students on public health-related issues such as health promotion, health inequalities, health ethics, and health wellbeing.

BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care: Management and Leadership:

This pathway develops students skills for management related to working effectively with other employees and considerations about wellbeing at work. Students will learn about management and leadership, project management and social entrepreneurship.
