Our level 6 childcare with Montessori course is a QQI accredited distance learning course. Once enrolled you will be assigned a tutor whom you can contact through email & phone. During your course, you will be required to complete 20 hours of work experience per module. After successfully completing this course you will be qualified to work as a childcare practitioner on supervisory level.
QQI Level 6 Childcare with Montessori Course Online
The purpose of this award is to enable you to acquire the knowledge, skills and competence to work as an autonomous practitioner and or take responsibility for the work of others in leading and coordinating the provision of a quality early childhood care and education environment which promotes children’s well-being, development and learning. This award will provide you with opportunities to transfer and progress to programmes leading to higher education and training awards.

How distance learning works
Our QQI Level 6 Early Childcare & Education with Montessori Online course can be completed through our distance learning method with excellent tutor support.
As our learner, you will be issued with a username and password to access the course materials, so you can complete the childcare course at your own convenience.
During the Level 6 Early Childcare & Education course, you are fully supported by our full time in-house & highly qualified tutors, who are available to answer any of your questions & queries by both email and phone. Additional support is also provided through our online forums, where peer to peer discussions are facilitated.
Students must complete a work placement of 150 hours during the course.
Who should enrol?
This course is suitable for learners who have an interest in the Montessori method of teaching. The course will cater for a variety of adult learners with a minimum Level 5 Certificate/ Ordinary Level Leaving Certificate standard of education. Many learners will previously have completed a Level 5 award in Childcare and may have experience in working in ECCE or Montessori settings, but this will not be mandatory. The participants will range from school leavers with no previous experience in the ECCE sector or of the Montessori curriculum approach, to more mature adults with relevant life or work experience. Younger participants will tend to complete the course by the full-time method. Some mature adults will be seeking new career opportunities or be working in the home, but many will be already working in the sector and either already be in supervisory positions or aspire to such positions.
Entry requirements
Minimum Level 5 Certificate / Ordinary Level Leaving Certificate / relevant life or work experience. Competence in written and spoken English essential.

- Qualification gained: Early Childhood Care and Education QQI Award (Major) Level 6 – 6M2007
- Assessment method: Continuous assessment including work-based assignments, projects, skills demonstrations and learner records. One exam is required for the Child Development module.
- Work experience: You are required to obtain a minimum of 150 hours work experience during the course and are expected to carry out some of the assignments in the workplace.
- Exemptions: It is possible to gain exemptions from certain components of the course. If you already hold a QQI, or any Childcare/Healthcare Award, please contact us for details and will advise you of available exemptions.
- Career opportunities: Working or leading within an early childhood service including a Montessori setting; Progression to 3rd Level education.
- Progression to further studies: You can progress to our BA Early Childhood Education and Care This course leads to a level 6 award on the National Framework of Qualifications. Students who successfully complete this could can use their credits towards completing a third level degree programme through the higher education links scheme.
Protection for learners
In compliance with Qualifications and Quality Assurance (Education and Training) Act 2012 Part 6, where Chevron College offers training programmes of 3 months duration or more, Learner Protection cover is in place via relevant financial product, should Chevron College cease to provide QQI programmes before learners have completed awards.
